Oliver Schmidt’s 21 points led the St. Croix Falls boys basketball team to a 54-49 victory over Cumberland Jan. 4.
“We played very good defense and shot free throws well to close out the game,” explained St. Croix Falls coach Chad Hall.
The Saints finished 8-for-11 (72.7%) from the free throw line, with Schmidt going 3-for-3. He was also 6-for-9 from the field.
Connor Olson chipped in with 14 points and nine rebounds. Cole Rutledge and Dayo Oye scored five points each. Oye added three rebounds, three assists and two steals. Brady Belisle tossed in four points and 16 rebounds.
“We are looking to continue our solid team defense and rebounding well,” Hall said. St. Croix Falls shot 41.3% from the field.
Ladysmith 64, St. Croix Falls 55
The Lumberjacks improved to 5-1 in conference play with the nine-point win Jan. 7.
“We gave up too many layups and didn’t shoot well from the free throw line,” Hall said. “The guys did a good job battling back from a couple double digit deficits.”
Brady Ingersoll posted a game-high 25 points for Ladysmith on 7-for-11 shooting from the field along with an 8-for-8 performance from the free throw line.
Blake Prince and Jack West added eight points each. Eli Rogers and Logan Alberson tossed in seven points each. Prince pulled down 10 rebounds and dished out six assists.
“Ladysmith drew a charge that erased a bucket and a chance at a three-point play,” Hall said, noting a turning point in the game.
Connor Olson led the Saints with 20 points, five rebounds and five assists. Brady Belisle finished with 14 points and seven rebounds. Dayo Oye scored eight points.
St. Croix Falls shot 9-for-17 (52.9%) from the free throw line.
“We are looking forward to getting healthy for the grind of the next few weeks,” Hall concluded.
The Saints fall to 3-4 in the conference and 4-5 overall.
