The Western Wisconsin Stars girls hockey team earned two wins this past weekend at the St. Croix Valley Fusion tournament. 

The Stars (4-1 overall) defeated Black River Falls 4-1 Nov. 27 behind the play of Erin Huerta. The senior forward scored a hat trick, all on even strength goals. Huerta has eight goals and three assists so far this season. Emily Berg added the final goal

Makenzie Weiss added three assists while Amanda Magler tallied the other one. 

The Stars outshout Black River Falls 59-22 thanks to a 42-15 advantage over the final two periods. 

Emaliya Schultz stopped 21 shots in a winning effort. 

 

Western Wisconsin 3, Bay Area 2

 The Stars found themselves down 2-1 heading into the third period against Bay Area Nov. 26

Thanks to goals from Brooke Olson and Erin Huerta, the comeback was able to occur and the Stars prevailed to earn its third win. 

Olson scored the tiebreaker at the 10 minute, 16 mark with assists by Huerta and Makenzie Weeks. Less than four minutes later, Huerta tailed the game winner with Amanda Magler and Makena Ducklow earning the assists. 

Weeks scored the Stars’ first goal in the second period with Ducklow registering the assist.

Bay Area outshot Western Wisconsin 33-16 with Emaliya Schultz stopping 31 shots to earn the win. 

 

St. Croix Valley 4, Western Wisconsin 1

A 0-for-7 power play sunk the Stars’ chances against St. Croix Valley Nov. 24 as the Fusion won 4-1. 

Erin Huerta scored the Stars’ lone goal at the 16 minute, 11 second mark of the third period with Makenzie Weeks earning the assist. 

Kendall Sundby had a three-point night for the Fusion including two goals and an assist. Kiara Therriault scored a goal and an assist. 

The Stars were also done in by only putting 16 shots on net compared to the Fusion’s 27. 

Emaliya Schultz stopped 23 shots in a losing effort. 

 

Western Wisconsin Stars 7, 

Prairie Centre 0

The Stars outshout Prairie Centre 54-2, including 21-0 in the first period, to earn its first shutout win Nov. 20. 

Three Stars scored two goals each – Alise Wiehl, Makenzie Weeks and Brooke Olson. Erin Huerta scored the final goal. Weeks added an assist. Emma Keopple and Madison Trautmiller finished with two assists each. 

Assists went to Alaina Smith, Makena Ducklow, Britni Detsch and Emily Berg. 

Emaliya Schultz stopped two shots to preserve the shutout 

 

Western Wisconsin Stars 5, Pine City 2

The Stars jumped out to a 4-1 lead after the first period to claim the season opening win Nov. 19. 

Four different Stars players scored in that period – Makenzie Weeks, Erin Huerta, Bryn Connors and Alise Wiehl. Huerta scored the team’s final goal in the third period. 

The Stars ended up outshooting Pine City 22-16 thanks to a 14-7 advantage in that period. 

Huerta and Weeks ended up with three point nights, while Wiehl tallied two. Connors, Alaina Smith and Makena Ducklow each had one. 

Emaliya Schultz stopped 14 Pine City shots to earn the win.
