As the school board election approaches, please take time to be informed about each candidate and what they’ll bring to our district. Also, take time to review the work of the incumbent board member, as their past behavior is a strong indicator of how they will continue to work for our students, our staff, and community.
Lanette Johnson, school board president, does not listen to the voices of taxpaying voters.
The community clearly stated their majority interest in a plan to go forward with a referendum on the elementary school building project. With their majority vote, they took your voice and your vote away. They took away mine too, and I refuse to let that be the legacy my children see happening in their schools.
Johnson also tried to move the public comment section of the school board meetings to the earlier committee meeting. Don’t be fooled. This attempt to move the public opportunity for comments to the committee meeting is a blatant attempt to make it more difficult for the community to be heard. The current majority of the school board doesn’t want to involve the community opinion in their decision making process. Whether you agree with the current majority or not, our voices should not be silenced.
Kysa Marten, by her votes, has demonstrated that she listens to the voters and community. Cory Schmidt is dedicated to doing the same. Vote Kysa and Cory for school board on April 4.
