Light Up Osceola will illuminate downtown Dec. 4 at Mill Pond Park

Santa will officially arrive in Osceola Dec. 4. “Light Up Osceola” will be held downtown at Mill Pond Park from 4 -7 p.m.

Families and visitors can kick-off the Christmas season with festive activities. The annual event will host pictures with Santa, face painting, food (such as the cleverly coined Booya Baskets that come with potato chips and 100% beef hot dogs or brats). There will be bonfires to make s’mores and kids can make ornaments to deck out your tree at home! There will be a D.J. on site for live music, an appearance by Mrs. Claus and Voice of the Valley Choir will be at the park performing Christmas carols!

Prior to this year, “Light Up Osceola” had been hosted by the Osceola Chamber. As reported by The Sun earlier this fall, President Lisa Erickson of Osceola Chamber and Main Street Board outlined the organization’s reasons for stepping back from the event this year, “Our organization is traditionally powered by business owners who are now experiencing demands and employee shortages like never before. In turn, this impacts our ability to continue offering many of the community-focused events. Too many events fall on our already underfunded staff and overworked volunteers. For the very same reasons, the Fall Decorating for businesses will be somewhat curtailed this year.”

Brett Harvey, owner of Cascade Nutrition had been interested in sponsoring the event and stepped in as Organizer for this year’s festival.

Harvey and his wife opened Cascade Nutrition about two years ago. They have also operated for several years at another location in Fidley, MN. Harvey explained that before opening in Osceola, he and his wife had visited a Bed and Breakfast in town and felt “called to the area.”

Harvey literally has his hands full these days - as he talks with me about preparation for “Light Up Osceola” – he is busy mixing and blending protein shakes for the steady flow of regulars pouring through the door!

So, if you have the chance, make your way to Mill Pond Park on Saturday, December 4th to celebrate Santa and the holiday spirit. If you can’t participate in the Christmas-inspired activities, come on down - grab a Booya Basket and gather for the official lighting ceremony of the Tree.
