Mason Will

St. Croix Falls sophomore Mason Will went at the Chisago Lakes duals.

When and where: December 7 at Chisago Lakes Duels

Outcome: St. Croix Falls finished 2-2 in a very tough duel tournament. “We lost to last year’s (Minnesota) State runner-ups Kenyon-Wanamingo 32-27 and to Foley, MN 45-16,” St. Croix Falls coach Joe Raygor said. “We ended up beating Little Falls 51-29 and Cambridge-Isanti 36-31. Kole Marko (145), Mason Will (120) and Tanner Gaffey (285) went undefeated in their respective weights. The day overall was a bitter taste of humble pie and exposed some areas of growth we need to work on for the future.”

Comments: “The day started off slow and ended with dramatic fashion,” Raygor said. “Trailing Cambridge-Isanti by seven points Kyle Zehm pinned his opponent to bring it within one and Tanner Gaffey pinned the heavyweight to win the duel. We ended the day at our best and we need to work on being more consistent from start to finish.”

Highlights: “Kole Marko, Mason Will and Tanner Gaffey all went 4-0 on the day,” Raygor reported. “Luke Thaemert (106) and Kyle Zehm (220) went 3-1.”

Upcoming: “We need to work on conditioning and mindset training,” Raygor summarized. “A huge part of our identity is winning the gritty matches and that will be a focus skill to work on. Thursday (December 12), we have a duel in Cameron against a conference opponent and then a tough tournament in Eau Claire on Saturday featuring some top ranked teams in the state.”
