Hayden Schill

Senior Hayden Schill and his SCF teammates have won five straight games and are currently 6-2 in HON play. The Saints defeated conference opponents Hayward and Bloomer last week.

When and Where: Jan. 12 at Hayward

Outcome: St. Croix Falls 65, Hayward 48

Summary: St. Croix Falls traveled to Hayward and defeated the Hurricanes in a Heart O’North contest. The Saints opened up a 14 point lead by halftime and added three more points to the victory margin after the break.

Highlights: St. Croix Falls was led in scoring by Jared Lessman with 20 points followed by Payton Christenson and Connor Olson with 12 points each. Hayward was led by Niizhoo Sullivan who dumped in 18. SCF dominated at the free throw line connecting on 20-of-23 (87%) while the Hurricanes were 6-of-8.

Comments: “We played solid team defense once we settled into the game,” St. Croix Falls Coach Chad Hall said. “Always nice to have three guys in double figures. We had a substantial rebound edge which gave us a lot of second chance opportunities on the offensive end. Jared Lessman continued to rebound well on both offense and defense.”

When and Where: Jan. 15 at St. Croix Falls

Outcome: St. Croix Falls 55, Bloomer 35

Summary: St. Croix Falls ran their winning streak to five games with a decisive HON win over the Bloomer Blackhawks. The Saints roared to a 25 point halftime lead and cruised in from there.

Highlights: Defense was the name of the game for SCF as no Bloomer player was able to crack double figures. The Blackhawks were able to net just 14 first half points. Christenson and Lessman led the Saints with 19 and 18 points respectively. Christenson connected five times from behind the arc.

Comments: “We started the game very well and jumped out to a comfortable lead after the first half,” Hall noted. “Defensively we were able to limit their top scores and their team as a whole. Usually a good night if we can hold the other team to 35 points. Payton Christensen shot lights out from behind the arc and Dayo Oye has done a great job running our fast break and offense from the point guard position.”

What this Means: The Saints are in third place in the HON behind Northwestern who is 7-0 and Cameron at 4-0. Ladysmith holds down the fourth position in the ten-team conference with a 5-3 mark.

Upcoming: St. Croix Falls is scheduled to host Hayward on Jan. 23 and will travel to Cumberland on Jan. 26 to face the Beavers.
