When and Where: Dec. 5 at St. Croix Falls
Outcome: St. Croix Falls 87, Somerset 85 – Double Overtime (non-conference)
Summary: “The Somerset game was a heck of a way to open up the season,” St. Croix Falls coach Chad Hall said. “We opened up a nice lead going into halftime with some solid team defense but we knew Somerset has the athletes to battle back which they certainly did. We had our opportunities to close it out in regulation but obviously did in the second overtime.”
Highlights: “We had three starters out near the end with five fouls and our bench really stepped up especially handling the ball and fighting to the end,” Hall said. “Zach Becker played tough inside during crunch time, Dayo Oye handled Somerset’s pressure and scored all his points in the overtimes, and Payton Christenson hit the game-winner on a layup with only a few seconds left to play.”
Comments: “Great team win to start the year,” Hall said

Summary: St. Croix Falls opened West Lakeland play with 33 point decision over the Frederic Vikings. The Saints were led in scoring by Declan Greenquist with 15 points with Clay VanBuskirk and Kullen Parks adding a dozen points each.
Highlights: “The Frederic game was certainly slower paced to start but we continued to play good team defense and were able to get in a nice rhythm offensively,” Hall reported. “By halftime we had a 20 point lead and were able to extend that by sharing the ball and getting everyone involved. Having nine different players score and getting everyone in the game to close it out was certainly exciting for us.”

Upcoming: “We have two big conference games this week versus Unity and Grantsburg and hopefully, we can continue playing solid team basketball,” Hall summarized.
