Krysta Cole takes a throw at third base for St. Croix Falls. After losing to Chetek-Weyerhaeuser the first game of the week last week, SCF came back to win three straight HON contests. The Saints get a bye the first round of Regionals and will host Barron on June 14. 

When and Where: June 1 at St. Croix Falls

Outcome: Chetek-Weyerhaeuser 11, St. Croix Falls 1

Summary: The Chetek-Weyerhaeuser Bulldogs have a pretty good softball team. They finished in fourth place in the 10-team Heart O’ North conference with a 10-6 record (11-9 overall). They came to St. Croix Falls and had their way with the Saints to begin the month of June.

Comments:  “We were not on our game that night,” Saint’s Coach Clayton Hanson remarked. “Chetek-Weyerhaeuser came out and we just couldn’t find a rhythm.”

When and Where: June3 at Hayward

Outcome: St. Croix Falls 7, Hayward 3

Summary: St. Croix Falls got back on the winning track after their 100 mile trip to Hayward where they toppled the Hurricanes 7-3. Hayward struck first with a run the first inning and SCF tied it up in the third. St. Croix Falls opened up a 4-1 led with three runs in the fifth and they added three more runs to their lead in the seventh to make it a 7-1 score. The Hurricanes rallied for three in the bottom of the seventh but fell three runs short of SCF at 7-4. 

Comments: “Brynn Connors pitched a great game and everyone had hot bats,” Hanson said. “Alise Wiehl came out swinging and she got herself a few more RBIs that night.”

When and Where: June 4th at St. Croix Falls (double header)

Outcome: St. Croix Falls 12, Barron 0 and St. Croix Falls 19, Barron 1

Summary: It was all St. Croix Falls in the double header sweep of the Barron Bears on the Saints home field. SCF rolled over the Bears winning by a combined score of 31-1 for the double header.

Comments: “Again great pitching from both Brynn and Alise,” Hanson noted. “It was a multiple hit night for everyone on the team and Sydnei Larson hit her first home run of the year. Three big wins going into playoffs is right where we want to be.”

What this Means: St. Croix Falls completed HON play with an 8-8 record and is 11-9 overall. Bloomer finished first in conference play at 18-0 followed by Northwestern (14-4), Hayward (11-5) and Chetek-Weyerhaeuser (10-6). Spooner also finished with an even slate in HON play at 9-9.

Upcoming: St. Croix Falls earned a bye in the first round of the upcoming WIAA Regionals by virtue of their 3-seed. The Saints will host the 6-seeded Barron team on June 14.
