When and Where: Jan. 3 at Barron
Outcome: St. Croix Falls 46, Barron 23
Summary: St. Croix Falls started the 2020 portion of their basketball schedule much like the way 2019 ended. The Saints used stifling defense and steady offense to double up the Barron Bears 46-23 in non-conference action in Barron. The Saints held the Bears to just eight first half points.
Highlights: Although the offense wasn’t hitting on all cylinders the defense certainly was. SCF held Barron to a total of eight field goals for the entire game, four in each half. The Saints led 29-8 at the break. Emily McCurdy had a very solid night on the offensive end finishing the game with 19 points on six deuces, a trey and going four-for-four from the charity stripe. Olivia Miron was also in double figures for SCF with 10 points.
Comments: “The team played good defense,” St. Croix Falls coach Angie Maternowsky said. “It was a physical game under the basket. First game back after break and we played a little sluggish on offense.”
What this Means: St. Croix Falls sits atop the West Lakeland conference standings with a 4-0 record and is 8-0 overall. Unity is in second place with a 3-1 conference record (6-2 overall).
Upcoming: The Saints get back in action with a conference game in St. Croix Falls on Jan. 14 when the Siren Dragons come to town.
