When and Where: October 31 at St. Croix Falls
Outcome: Grantsburg 3, St. Croix Falls 2
Summary: Three times was not a charm for the St. Croix Falls Saints volleyball team. After beating Grantsburg twice during their undefeated Lakeland conference season the Pirates turned the tables on SCF with a hard fought win in five games in the Sectional semi-final. Grantsburg won the first two games (25-17, 26-24) before the Saints came back to even the match with wins in games three and four (25-23, 26-24). St. Croix Falls could not keep the momentum in the deciding game falling to the Pirates 15-8.
Comments: “We just didn’t play our best,” St. Croix Falls coach Jen Nelson said. “So proud of everyone on the team. They worked so hard and grew a lot as young women and players this year.”
Season Summary: “The team won conference with a 12-0 record which hadn’t been achieved in over 30 years,” Nelson said. “The team also accomplished back-to-back Regional championships. Shout out to Sidney Hoverman who accomplished 1,500 kills to end her high school career.”
Seniors: “Our seniors will be so missed,” Nelson said. “They all brought so many blessings to the team. I have so enjoyed coaching them for the last three years.”
Upcoming: “Reset,” Nelson remarked as she looked to volleyball in 2020. “Our team is so blessed with an abundance of committed talented players. I really look forward to next year.”
