Derek Fisk

Senior Derek Fisk scored two of the Saints’ eight touchdowns in their first Heart of the North Conference win over Chetek-Weyerhaeuser, 55-14.

When and Where: Sept. 6 at Chetek

Outcome: St. Croix Falls 55, Chetek-Weyerhaeuser 14

Summary: The St. Croix Falls Saints football team won their first Heart O’North football contest in school history with a convincing 55-14 win over the Chetek-Weyerhaeuser Bulldogs. St. Croix Falls scored the game’s first 35 points and raced to a 42-7 halftime advantage.

Comments: “It was a well-deserved victory,” St. Croix Falls coach Grant Belisle said. “The kids played well and they enjoyed their first victory of the season. This is also the first win since joining the Heart O’ North Conference.”

Offensive Notes: “We were able to use multiple running backs in tonight’s scheme,” Belisle said. “Derek Fisk again ran very well and found some holes to run through while chalking up a couple TDs. Caleb Steffen and McKinley Erickson each added a couple TDs themselves. Others who scored were Anthony Will and Graidy Guggisberg.  Dayo Oye provided a couple big gains both in the rush game and kicking game. The offensive line provided confidence and leadership to this team. They allow our backs to run confidently knowing there will be a hole to run in. Bennett Bergmann, Tanner Gaffey, Sam Wilson, Sebastian Austad, Garrett Brown, and tight end Kaleb Bents have worked hard to provide this team a powerful running game.”

Defensive Notes: “I was very pleased with our defensive effort tonight,” Belisle said. “We felt that Chetek’s QB (Dakota Herrmann) was dangerous so we needed to keep him contained. They also have some dangerous receivers if we didn’t disrupt their routes and timing of the throws. We missed an assignment that resulted in a Chetek TD. Otherwise we were able to keep them from passing the ball effectively.”

Upcoming:  The Barron Bears come to St. Croix Falls in search of their first conference win of the season on Sept. 13.
