When and Where: May 31 and June 1 State meet at La Crosse
Outcome: The St. Croix Falls Saints had several athletes compete at the State meet in La Crosse on May 31 and June 1. As always the competition was tough but the Saints did get one athlete to the podium when Jordan Braund placed sixth in the 100m.
Girls Highlights: “We ended the season at the State meet with Jordan Braund ending up sixth in the 100, earning a medal and a spot on the podium. Anna Klein was 13th in the 400. Jordan ran a great race with a time of 12.55, her second best of the season in still conditions. She had a perfect lean at the line to earn sixth place by one hundredth of a second. Anna also ran a tough race in the 400, not far off her personal best on the season. We will certainly miss Anna next year, both as an athlete and as a leader on this team. It is going to be strange without a Klein kid as a part of SCF Track. These are a couple of fantastic young ladies both on and off the track and it was very special sharing this weekend at State with them both. I am extremely proud of their accomplishments.”
Girls Wrap-up: “As a team we had a strong season,” Belisle said. “The girls were conference champions for the eighth year in a row; they were third at the Regional, and eighth at Sectionals. We are the smallest school in division 2 competition, so I am happy with the way they competed this season, considering we take a big step up during the tournament series. While it’s important to celebrate this season’s success, I am looking forward to watching many of our young athletes grow and develop next season. We hope to continue growing our program and find future success with a great core of girls.”
Boys Highlights: The boys were unable to score any team points against the State competition but all SCF athletes did very well. The 800m relay team of Logan Ross, Anthony Will, McKinley Erickson and Spencer Steek broke the Saints’ school record in the event. Ross also ran well in the 110m hurdles making it through preliminaries. He finished 10th in the finals. Ryan Peltz also got a 10th place finish by clearing 13’ in the pole vault. Sebastian Austad placed 14th in the discus.
Boys Wrap-Up: The St. Croix Falls boys won the Lakeland conference meet and finished high in the Regionals and Sectionals. The Saints have been on an upswing in the last several years and figure to continue this trend next season.
