Calan Leahy

After intercepting a pass from the Barron Bears quarterback Saints senior Calan Leahy runs the ball in for a touchdown. Saints won 63-14.

When and Where: Sept. 13 at St. Croix Falls

Outcome: St. Croix Falls 63, Barron 14

Summary: The St. Croix Falls Saints broke from a 14-14 tie scoring the game’s last 49 points. SCF scored six touchdowns and 42 points in the second quarter alone. “Our kids played a good game,” St. Croix Falls coach Grant Belisle said. “Barron has some nice athletes and gave us some problems in the first quarter.  Thankfully we were able to keep our ground game strong for the second week in a row and I think that took its toll on Barron’s defense.  We were fortunate enough to get two “pick-six” touchdowns in the second quarter, one by Cal Leahy and the other by Caleb Steffen.  Leahy jumped on an errant pitch by the Bears and Derek Fisk had a forced fumble and recovery early in the game as well. “

Comments: “It was a great night at Saints Stadium,” Belisle noted. “Our great fan base showed up early to enjoy food served out of our new tailgating cooker/trailer. A ‘Thank you’ goes out to all the sponsors and those who helped build the trailer, mainly Rich Erickson. Great job by all. It was nice to get many kids into the game to see what they could do during actual varsity time. We saw some great things out of our younger players.”

Upcoming: “Our team heads to Spooner this Friday,” Belisle said. “We played them last season opener and they got the best of us. They play a tight, physical style of offense that can be tough to defend. We will need to have a great week of practice if we’re going to come out with a win. “
