New fitness center 'Right on schedule'
Bont to put finishing touches on this weekend, to open Monday.
By Todd Beckmann

Friday will be a busy day for Dr. Steve Bont and the new and improved Grantsburg 24-hour Fitness and Racquet Center.

"It's really going to start looking like a gym that day," he said.

In addition to the electricians, carpenters, carpet-layers, security guys and the rest of the tradesmen who are converting the former fitness center to the new all-access fitness center, the center will be doubly busy because Friday is the day the new fitness equipment arrives.

But where to put it all?

Earlier in August, the Grantsburg Pirates football team lent a hand filling in the pool area.

"It went really well," Bont said. "Coach Lehne said it was a good team-building exercise."

With the pool and hot tub area covered, that's where the bulk of the exercise equipment will be placed.

There will be four separate areas for people to work out.

"We'll have a cardiovascular area with treadmills, ellipticals and riding bikes, there will be a circuit training area with 12 to 14 Cybex machines, each with a "selectorized" weight stack, a free weight area complete with dumbbells, weight benches and squat benches, and finally an aerobics area.

"I'm really excited about the equipment we have coming in," he said.

In addition, Bont said he has purchased the PACE Fitness Center and is bringing their equipment to his fitness center.

"Kellie and Kerri Harter will be working here," he said. "Their circuit equipment will just be another facet of our center."

"People will have a lot to choose from to workout, to get fit and to have fun," he continued.

"I already have instructors lined up to offer classes in kickboxing, pilates and yoga," he continued.

He's keeping the racquetball courts so the center will still be able to offer racquetball, wallyball and handball.

As of Aug. 26, Bont said he is starting to take memberships.

In fact, he had to save the very first membership for Todd Anderson, the former president of the fitness center.

"I'm happy he's re-opening the fitness center and taking it over," Anderson said.

Bont said he'll be busy over the weekend adding the finishing touches, and even though Monday is a holiday, he'll be open for business.

"Because it's a 24/7, 365 days a year facility, people can come in and work out anytime," Bont said. "In fact, we have our first personal trainer session scheduled for Monday."

Lucy Jewell, Bont's office manager, will be the manager of the fitness center and will work in the chiropractic office as well.

Bont is also opening his chiropractic office inside the fitness center on Tuesday. "I already have my first patient scheduled for bright and early Tuesday morning," he said.
