The Regular Meeting of the Board of Education for the School District of Osceola was held in the Boardroom on May 8, 2019. The meeting was called to order by President Craig Brunclik at 6:30 P.M. with roll call taken: Pete Kammerud – yes; Craig Brunclik –yes, Brian Meyer – yes; Rosanne Anderson- yes; and Brooke Kulzer -yes.  In addition, Superintendent Mark Luebker, Business Manager Lynette Edwards, Director of Instruction Becky Styles, Dean of Students Arvid Maki, Director of Building & Grounds Bob Schmidt, OHS Athletic Director Scott Newton, OMS Athletic Director Trevor Scholz along with Building Principals Adam Spiegel, Amanda Meyer, Julie Bender and Lindsay Thomas attended the meeting.

A Pete Kammerud/Brooke Kulzer motion was made to approve the consent agenda without any times removed for discussion but an additional resignation of Kayla Dimler, 4K Teacher.  Motion Carried.

A Rosanne Anderson/Brooke Kulzer motion was made to approve the payment of bills from General Fund with hand payables checks numbered 94552 through 94554, two wire transfers 201819228-201819228 & and computerized checks numbered 175379 through 175378 and HRA 1192-1193 for a total of $1,011,320.56. Motion Carried.   

School Facility Usage was tabled to the June 5th, 2019 Board meeting. 

A Rosanne Anderson/Brian Anderson motion was made to approve a contract to be drafted with Cedar Bend Church for facility use. Cedar Bend Church will use the High School Auditorium for their Sunday Services and will contribute a new projector, IPad, and other additions to the Auditorium. Motion Carried.

A Brian Meyer/Pete Kammerud motion was made to approve 2019-20 Teacher Compensation with approval of lane change and step movement. Twenty-nine staff members will not receive an increase.  Rosanne Anderson-no, Pete Kammerud-yes, Brooke Kulzer-yes, Brian Meyer-yes, Craig Brunclik-no. Motion Carried. 

A Rosanne Anderson/Pete Kammerud motion was made to approve 2019-20 Support Staff Compensation by 2% and lane change. Rosanne Anderson- yes, Pete Kammerud- yes, Brooke Kulzer- yes, Brian Meyer-no, Craig Brunclik-no. Motion Carried.

2019-2020 Budget Reductions. Mark Luebker reported recommendations. 

A Rosanne Anderson/Brooke Kulzer motion was made to approve OMS Athletics to move out of General Fund 10 and into the Community Service Fund 80. Motion Carried. 

A motion was made by Brian Meyer to raise OMS athletic fees to $100 per sport with no family max cost. Motion failed.  

A Rosanne Anderson/Pete Kammerud motion was made approve to keep OMS athletic fees to $50 per sport but change to no individual or family max cost. Motion carried. 

A Pete Kammerud/Brooke Kulzer motion was made to approve OHS Athletic offerings will stay the same for the 2019-2020 school year. No athletic offerings will be eliminated. Motion carried. 

A Pete Kammerud/Brian Meyer motion was made to approve the OHS Athletic fees for 2019-2020 will be $100 per sport with a $600 family max cost. Motion carried.  

Administrative Reports:

Mrs. Bender: OIS Forward testing is complete, thank you to Karlee Pitt and Annie Bauer for taking the lead on administering this assessment. MAP testing begins next week, wrapping up end of the year assessments. The 2nd grade class will visit OIS on May 23rd to see OIS and participate in some transitional activities. Parent meeting is scheduled for May 20th. 3rd grade participated in their last field trip at Warner Nature Center in Scandia where they enjoyed nature, bird banding and learning about reptiles. 4th grade took their field trip to Ulrich Farms in Osceola where they got to learn about life on the farm. 5th grade participated in an advertisement competition for the Osceola Sun, thank you Andy Dyer. Upcoming May events include the OIS Concert May 10th, Track & Field Day, Exploratory morning and the end of year celebration in the auditorium. 

Mrs. Styles: State testing is complete. Huge appreciation to all who played a role in this endeavor. Recognition to the leaders in each building: Sara Henke, Nathan Gehring, Kari Erickson, Arica Stensven, Karlee Pitt, Annie Bauer, building principals, staff, our Technology team, and Charlene Ogren.   

Ms. Thomas: Mrs. Henningsgard and the K-2 students did a wonderful job with their Hawaiian themed spring concert on May 3rd.  The OES Spring Book Fair was very successful. A huge thank you to Brooke Kulzer, the PTA and other volunteers. OES is in the middle of PALS, MAP, F&P, and report card assessments, data will be analyzed and used for planning for next year. The School Wide Title I Team is hosting our annual meeting for staff and families on May 16th at 7:30 a.m. 

Mr. Spiegel: OHS is in the middle of 2019-2020 scheduling, thank you to Lori, Arvid, Nate and Sara for their work on this. AP testing started this week. Spring athletics are in full swing are doing very well; very proud of our students and coaches. Mr. Corbett & Mr. Aytay did a great job organizing the band and choir concerts, they both went very well. Mr. Letko and his classes worked hard on getting the school bus ready for the race this Saturday! Our annual Empty Bowls event was very successful raising over $6,000. A huge thanks to all those who helped, especially Peg Medcraft and Beth Friedrichsen. Graduation is next week.

Mr. Arvid: The annual Give Back Day is Wednesday May 22. The Alternative Diploma Program graduation is scheduled for May 23rd at 7:00 p.m. 

Mr. Newton: Spring athletics are going very well with many successes to highlight this season. Boys Golf: currently 2nd place in conference. We host next conference meet May 15 at 9am. Track & Field: MBC meet May 14, we then host the regionals meet on May 20th. Boys Tennis: MBC match is May 15th at New Richmond. Girls Soccer: Win against Barron and now prepping for playoffs. Softball: Travel to Rice Lake for first round of playoffs May 16th. Baseball: Win against Amery & Chisago Lakes! 

Mrs. Edwards- We hosted five employee benefit training with SF Insurance and Health Partners for staff this week and all went well. Currently working with building principals with budgets 2019-2020. 

Ms. Meyer: Forward testing is complete at OMS, thank you to all the staff who helped prepare, organize, administer and follow up to ensure each test was completed. The 6th graders took their annual trip to the Old Spaghetti Factory last week and saw Tuck Everlasting. While there, they had etiquette lessons and were able to see and experience places that not all kids are able to, thank you to the 6th grade team. The 8th graders attended a job fair at the Polk County Fairgrounds where they got to practice hands on careers and learn about the education needed for these careers. OMS recently hosted a parent & student night for our current 5th grade class that will attend OMS next year. Upcoming May events: May 10, 8th grade has a field trip scheduled to learn about the St. Croix River. Their 8th grade dance is scheduled for that evening. May 16th is the OMS band concert and the choir concert is May 21st; good luck to all those participating.  

The next scheduled regular Board Meeting is Wednesday, May 22 2019 at 6:30 p.m. in the Boardroom. 

A Pete Kammerud/Brooke Kulzer motion was adjourn to Executive Session pursuant to WI Statute 19.85(1) (a) (c) and (f) to consider the   employment and compensation of any employee and for preliminary consideration of a specific matter which, if discussed in public, could have an adverse impact on the reputation of those involved.
