As with everyone else, in the current COVID environment, we at The Open Cupboard have gone through many required changes to continue providing food to those in need. Through all these changes, you, the community has made a huge difference with your donations and we cannot express enough appreciation for your generosity.
Just a few examples of this generosity include: Marv’s Trailers donating the use of a trailer for six months so our clients could still come for their fruit, vegetables, and bread; Trollhaugen giving ski passes in exchange for food; Polaris Industries and their employees for matching funds and organizing a successful food drive; Empty Bowls and Trinity Lutheran Church who raised money for the Back Pack program; Ace Hardware unloading our truck so all Polk County food shelves can obtain their WI TEFAP food outside in a socially distanced setting; Dick’s Fresh Market running a collection during Hope for the Holidays and using that money to supply families in need with Dick’s gift cards.
When you could not find paper towels or toilet paper on store shelves, we found them in our donation box. Every week we received checks in the mail or someone who had never donated before would stop by The Open Cupboard and drop off a cash donation. We just cannot thank you enough and we surely would not have been able to help as many people as we did without a monumental effort on the part of the community that has so generously supported us for the past 29 years.
Following are the 2020 Stats:
We served 671 families, consisting of 691 adults, 321 senior citizens, and 470 children. We gave out more than 97,000 lbs. of food not including bread, bakery, fruit, veggies, and other food items. The backpack numbers were lower with school being out, but we still helped 647 families, with 1,075 adults and 1,625 children.
Once again Thank You for helping us provide for our neighbors in need. We cannot do this without you.
