So pleased to see the Village Board of Trustees take the proactive step of sharing the proposed budget for 2020 with all taxpayers in the SUN last week. What a refreshing display of transparency in local government.

Last night’s Public Hearing was the opportunity for questions and discussion regarding the planned increase in the Village Mill Rate. The meeting was not well attended by citizens and or taxpayers. However, the Village Board along with our new Administrator, Ben K. did a wonderful job of listening and commenting on the current financial situation. The fact is additional tax dollars are needed to pay debt incurred in the construction of the Discovery Center — beyond the previously approved public financing of and private donations for the project.

Tax increases are never an enjoyable topic, but the interaction between the Board of Trustees and those in attendance was mutually respectful and hopeful for a brighter future — by working together.
