Marianne (Lau) Nesta of Osceola, died unexpectedly on July 7, 2019. She was 62.

Marianne was born Sept. 27, 1956, to Robert and Harriet Lau in Osceola. She was baptized and confirmed at Grace Lutheran Church in Nye.

In her youth, she enjoyed playing softball through the Pleasant Lake 4-H Club and the East Farmington women’s fast-pitch league. She graduated from Osceola High School in 1974 and earned a practical nursing degree from Anoka Area Vocational Technical Institute in 1977. She worked as an LPN in a variety of locations including Ladd Memorial Hospital, Osceola; Lakeview Area Hospital, Stillwater, Minn.; Chelan Area Hospital, Chelan, Wash.; and Lawson Nursing Home, Jefferson Hills, Pa.

While working in Stillwater, she met her husband, Joseph Nesta. The couple was married Sept. 29, 1984, and shortly thereafter moved to Chelan, Wash., where their son, Joseph Robert, was born in 1986. In 1987, the family relocated to Elizabeth, Pa.

Marianne devoted herself to being a stay-at-home mother and became an active member of Faith Lutheran Church in West Newton, Pa. The Nesta family loved cheering on the Pittsburgh Steelers and watching Pittsburgh Penguins games together. In 1999, her husband Joe began a 15-year battle with cancer. In addition to her work at a local nursing home, Marianne was his faithful caregiver throughout his illness. In 2014, Joe passed away.

In 2016, Marianne moved back to her hometown of Osceola. She enjoyed her remaining years in her cozy townhouse, volunteering at the Grace for Kids Preschool, attending Tai Chi and Yoga classes, and going on outings with family and friends.

Marianne is remembered as a fun-loving, congenial, social and generous person. She deeply loved her husband, son, extended family, and canine companions. She will be greatly missed.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; father and mother-in-law, Joseph and Dorothy Nesta; brother-in-law, Butch O’Dell; sister-in-law, Dolly Barone; and niece, Chrissy O’Dell.

She is survived by her son, Joseph Nesta, Osceola; her sisters, Barbara Lau, New Richmond; Nancy (Don) Hasselquist, Osceola; Roberta (Bryce) Peters, South St Paul, Minn.; Julie (Lance) Germain, Osceola; brother-in-law, Tony Barone; sister-in-law Margaret O’Dell; numerous nieces and nephews; and many beloved friends.

The family will receive condolences one hour prior to a Celebration of Life service. The service will be held at 10 am on Tuesday, July 16 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Osceola. A private internment will take place at Oak Grove Cemetery.
