On Dec. 31, 2019, Kaila Marie Dorau, loving granddaughter, niece and friend, suddenly and tragically, died in Spring Green, Wis. She was 27.

Kaila was born Sept. 30, 1992, in Osceola. She graduated from River Valley High School in 2011. Kaila’s adventurous soul touched many people. Kaila had a kind heart, a love for crafting, and would always consider others before thinking of her own needs. Without judgement, she accepted everyone. She had an amazing vocabulary, carefully crafted her words for optimal response. Kaila had a love for all animals, but especially cats. They would melt into her lap, and be content in stillness. Her cat Patoots spent many captive hours in Kaila’s lap, giving up freedom for the greater good. Above anything, Kaila longed for family life. She saw what others had, and desperately wished for the same. The unfortunate side of her disability, even with wonderful friends, family, caregivers, coworkers, bus drivers, teachers, doctors, social workers, and community, she longed for more. Her signature departure, “Can I get a hug?”

She will be greatly missed by her surviving cousins, uncles and aunts, and friends in the community. Special thanks to Hodan Community Services; Kaila’s best friend, Brook; Brook’s parent’s Cindy and Steve; and Diane for the love and care they have shown Kaila, and to all those who have helped her along the way.

Services will be held at the Richardson-Stafford Funeral Home in Spring Green, Wis., on Jan. 18, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. A small reception to follow.
