James H. Johnson died peacefully at his home in his favorite recliner on Nov. 19, 2020. He was 95.

He was born June 14, 1925 in Alden Township, to Thom and Ruth Johnson. He attended Cedar Lake School and later purchased a farm in Star Prairie. He married Margie Steffen on September 18, 1948. They were married for 72 years. Jim and Margie farmed until 1973 when he took a job at Farmers Union Coop in New Richmond. He worked there until his retirement in 1987. They spent the next 25 years enjoying the winters in Florida and summers at Lake Wapogasset making several close friends.

Jim loved family, friends, fishing and food. His favorite fishing trips were those with family members to Canada going for big pike. Fishing on Wapo was almost a daily event in the summers catching sunnies and walleye. In his later years, sunnies and walleye were his favorite food. He was proud of being a “purebred” Norwegian and therefore loved lutefisk and lefse. He loved and was loved by so many including family and friends. He was a member of West Immanuel Lutheran Church and had a strong faith. He continually said he wanted to live as long as his grandfather who had died at 95. He made it. In his own words, “I had a wonderful life.”

He is survived by his wife, Margie, children Patty Thomas (Keith), Bruce Johnson (Kathy), and Jackie Hildebrand (Keith). He had eight grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by brothers Robert (Sharon), Jerry, and Glen (Beth). He is preceded in death by his son Barry, brothers Elton, John, Curtis, George and sisters Sally (Rose) and Alta Mae.

A memorial service will be held in the spring of 2021.
