Before Betty was married, she worked as a teacher. She enjoyed reading, singing, gardening, camping, selling Bee-line clothing, being involved with her church and caring for her children. Later in life she trained to be a Personal Care Assistant providing home care for a number of years.  She spoke fluent Norwegian and was proud of her heritage.
