David A. Carlson of St. Croix Falls died Dec. 12, 2020, at Regions Hospital in St. Paul, Minn. He was 69.

Dave was born July 23, 1951, in Denver, Colo., to Alert and Catherine Carlson. In 1958, his family moved from Denver to a farm in Cushing, and in 1966 moved to St. Croix Falls.

Dave graduated from St. Croix Falls High School in 1969, and attended college for a year. Instead of pursuing a career in teaching, he decided to get a job in the road construction/asphalt business. He worked for various local Asphalt Companies, and that was the start of his lifelong career.

Dave married Jane Meyer in 1976. They have two sons, John and Pete, and two grandsons, Dylan and Jack.

While Dave was working road construction in the summers, he began logging in the winters in 1982, for Bob Svoboda Logging of Centuria, Wisconsin. Together they logged almost every winter for over 30 years. He had a lifelong close friendship with Bob. Bob said Dave was the best worker and best machinery operator he had ever seen.

Dave went to work for Monarch Paving Company, Amery, Wisconsin, in 1984 as a foreman of a paving crew. He later became a Superintendent, and retired from Monarch in 2006. He had many great friends there, and wonderful, interesting stories from those years at Monarch.

After retiring, Dave went to work for Jeff Fox Contracting & Septic, in 2008, mainly as a Bobcat operator. He really enjoyed that time, and became good friends with Fox. Our family is truly grateful to Jeff for everything he has done for Dave over those years.

Also after retiring, Dave took up woodworking, and spent many hours in his workshop, building beautiful furniture and so much more.

Besides being a hard worker and very ambitious, he also liked to have fun. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, and being outdoors. His latest project was fixing up Deer Camp in Danbury, where he loved spending time with family and friends. In 2009 he did a tandem skydive at The Ranch in New York with close friends. Dave re-built a Houseboat with his sons and enjoyed time on the St. Croix River. He could pretty much fix and do anything in his shop. And he looked forward to Happy Hour after the day’s work.

Dave was very giving, and always there to help everybody, anytime. He loved his family. His pride and joy were his sons, and grandsons.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Alert and Catherine Carlson, brother-in-law, Leonard Meyer, brother-in-law, Allen Lucken.

He is survived by his wife, Jane, his son, John, grandson Dylan, his son Pete (Jill), grandson, Jack; sisters, Kathleen Lucken, Carolyn (Gary) Ward, Patty Teorey, and Jackie Hillman; brother-in-law, Lloyd (Penny) Meyer, sister-in-law, Marie (Bob) Puffer, sister-in-law, Mary (Don) Fuerstenberg, brother-in-law, George (Vicki) Meyer, sister-in-law, Betty (Larry) Ouellette, brother-in-law, Lawrence (Mitzie) Meyer; many nieces and nephews, cousins, and many wonderful friends.

He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

A celebration of life will be held in the spring/summer of 2021.

Arrangements were by Grandstrand Funeral Home, Dresser, Wisconsin. Condolences may be expressed online at www.grandstrandfh.com.
