An Amery teen died in the hospital Friday, June 1, the result of injuries from a crash in the neighboring town of Black Brook. According to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, her death represents the second fatality caused by the May 27 collision.

As reported in last week’s edition of the Sun, the teen, Kali Laqua, had been flown to Regions Hospital with severe injuries after the pick-up truck she was driving crossed the centerline and collided with another vehicle. The passenger in the other truck, 57-year-old Brenda Soderberg of Hammond, died at the scene. The driver, Keith Soderberg, 63, was flown to Regions with severe injuries.

The passenger in Laqua’s vehicle, a teen from Deer Park, was transported to Amery Regional Medical Center with injuries that were not believed to be life threatening.
